The short answerMetallica at Sphere is a 24-show residency called Life Burns Faster, running from October 1, 2026 to March 13, 2027. Four 2026 shows are left: October 29 and 31 and November 5 and 7. Then the band returns for 12 shows from January 28 to March 13, 2027. Shows come in Thursday and Saturday pairs with no song repeated across the two nights. On October 27, 2026, listings for October 29 started around $432 and for Halloween around $560 per seat before fees. For the best mix of view and sound, aim for the center 200 level; for the most intense night, the floor "Snake Pit" around the stage.

When Metallica announced Life Burns Faster on February 25, 2026, it was eight October shows. Demand changed that fast. The band added six shows on March 2, citing "unbelievable demand," then ten more three days later, pushing the run into 2027 and taking it to 24 shows. On March 10, the band said it wasn't adding more dates "at this point in time," while saying it hoped to offer more in the future.

The residency opened on October 1, 2026, and nearly 40,000 people saw the opening weekend. With 20 shows already played or on sale for 2027, the question now is simple: which of the remaining nights should you go to, what will it cost, and where should you sit? This guide covers all of it, plus how to build a full Las Vegas weekend around the show.

When does Metallica play Sphere? All remaining dates

Every show falls on a Thursday or a Saturday. Each pair is one "weekend," and the two nights in a pair have different setlists. Here's everything left as of October 27, 2026:

Dates come from the band's announcements and the residency's published schedule. Sphere's own shows page lists Metallica from October 1, 2026 to March 13, 2027. Always confirm your date on the official Sphere website before booking flights, since residencies can move. Our full Sphere calendar tracks every show at the venue.

What is a No Repeat Weekend?

Metallica first used the No Repeat Weekend format on its M72 World Tour in 2023. The idea: if you come to both the Thursday and the Saturday show, you won't hear the same song twice. At Sphere, the band takes it further. Each night has its own setlist and its own set of visuals built for the dome, so the two shows look different, not just sound different.

The opening weekend showed how wide the catalog goes. Across roughly 30 songs over the two nights, the band brought back "...And Justice for All" for the first time since 2014, "Devil's Dance" for the first time since 2008, and "The Outlaw Torn" for the first time since 2019. The opening-night set alone drew on nine of the band's 11 studio albums.

Our take

If you're flying in for Metallica, go both nights. The format is built for it, the two-night pass usually costs less than two separate tickets, and you'll see twice as many of the visual set pieces. If you can only do one, the setlists are unpredictable either way, so pick the night that fits your trip.

What's the show actually like?

Most Sphere concerts use an end stage, with the band at one side of the room. Metallica doesn't. On opening night, the band played on a circular stage in the middle of the floor, ringed by the general admission "Snake Pit." Nine microphone stations sat around the edge, so James Hetfield and the band could face every part of the room, and Lars Ulrich's drum kit moved to different fixed spots during the show. Above it all, a camera on an overhead track filmed the band and crowd and projected the shots onto the dome in real time.

Then there are the visuals. Reviewers described custom imagery for nearly every song. A few that stood out on opening night, according to Casino.org and Guitar World:

  • "Battery" opened the show with imagery reworking the Master of Puppets era across the whole dome.
  • "Sad But True" came with gothic cathedral imagery.
  • "The Shortest Straw" turned the dome into playing cards and slot reels, a nod to the city.
  • "Ride the Lightning" put a giant virtual electric chair over the crowd.
  • Other moments included roller coasters racing through city scenes, huge hourglasses and burning churches.
  • "Master of Puppets" closed the night with visuals referencing the 1986 album cover.

The opening-night set ran 16 songs, from "Battery" to "Master of Puppets," with Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo taking a mid-show feature and Hetfield dedicating "The Call of Ktulu" to the late Cliff Burton. The band walked on at 8:48 p.m. that night, after the usual intro of "The Ecstasy of Gold."

One more detail fans like: in August 2026, the band invited fans to upload photos of themselves at past Metallica concerts to be shown on the Sphere screen. If you're going, check the band's official site to see whether uploads are still open for your date.

What did the critics say?

Early reviews were strongly positive. The Los Angeles Times called opening weekend "two perfectly tuned sets." Rolling Stone highlighted the "jaw-dropping visuals," and the Las Vegas Review-Journal praised a show "rooted in pure musicianship." The common thread: the dome makes the show bigger, but the band is still the point. Metallica has said it approached the venue as something to amplify the songs, not replace the musicians.

Sound was a question before the run started, because Sphere has strict volume rules. Guitar World noted that Metallica didn't need to change much: the band has played through digital amp modelers since 2013, which suits a room like this.

How much are Metallica at Sphere tickets?

Prices move every day, especially close to the show. Here's what one listings site showed on October 27, 2026, before fees:

Show"From" priceNotes
Thu Oct 29, 2026About $432Listed at 8:30 p.m.
Sat Oct 31, 2026 (Halloween)About $560VIP experience also listed
Two-night pass (Oct 29 + Oct 31)About $695Good for that pair only

For comparison, when we checked the same site on October 18, single-night listings for late-October shows started around $394. Saturday shows and holiday nights tend to cost more, and seats in the center of the 200 level and close to the stage cost far more than the "from" price. Prices for November and the 2027 dates can look very different, so check the specific date.

Which ticket types are there?

When the residency was announced, the band's official site described several options:

  • Single-night and two-night tickets: the standard choice, sold for each weekend.
  • Full House Ticket: admission to every Metallica show at Sphere in 2026.
  • Enhanced Experiences: VIP options such as a meet-and-greet, a pre-show photo on stage, the Black Box Experience, early venue access and a spot inside the Snake Pit.
  • Travel packages: sold through Vibee, with tickets to both shows of a weekend, three hotel nights at the Venetian or Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, a limited-edition merch item, a collectible laminate and on-site concierge. Higher tiers added priority entry, a luxury motorcoach from Harry Reid International Airport and an MP3 of both shows.

Package contents and prices change, so check the band's official residency page for what's on sale for your date. The band also acknowledged in March that the ticket-buying process "was often frustrating," so give yourself time if you're buying a 2027 date at a busy moment.

How to pay less

  • Pick a Thursday. On the late-October listings, the Thursday show started about $130 lower than Halloween Saturday.
  • Buy the pair. The two-night pass listed from about $695, well under the cost of buying the two nights separately.
  • Go higher, stay central. A center 300-level seat sees the whole dome and usually costs less than a side 200-level seat.
  • Look at 2027. Winter dates fall outside the holiday and convention peaks, which can help on hotel prices, too.
  • Compare carefully. Buy on the official site or its authorized partners first. If you browse Sphere ticket and tour options elsewhere, always check the level, section and row before you pay.

Where to sit for Metallica at Sphere

Concertgoers in black t-shirts crossing a pedestrian bridge at night toward a giant glowing sphere lit with red and violet abstract light
Most fans walk in through the Venetian and across the bridge. Doors open 90 minutes before showtime.

Seating at Sphere is different from an arena, because the screen wraps over and around you. For concerts, the general rule is to sit in the center of the 200 level, around sections 205 to 207, in rows 10 to 20. That puts the stage and the dome in the same view. Metallica's center stage changes the math a little, though, so here's how each area plays for this show:

AreaWhat you getWho it suits
Floor / Snake PitStanding right around the circular stage, closest to the bandDiehards who want the band, not the screen
100 levelClose to the floor; rows 24 and up sit under the overhang, which cuts off part of the domeFans who want proximity in a seat; check your row
Center 200 levelThe best balance of stage view, sound and the full screenMost people, especially first-timers
300 levelThe full dome at eye level, the band smallerVisual lovers and value hunters
400 levelCheapest seats, very steep, the whole pictureBudget buyers comfortable with heights

A few extra tips. Sphere has haptic seats in roughly 10,000 of its seats, so if you want to feel the kick drum through your chair, check before you pay extra. If you're prone to motion sickness, a central seat and lower rows help. And in the Snake Pit, you'll look up at the screen and across at the band, so the dome becomes a backdrop rather than the main event. Our Sphere seating guide covers every level in detail.

Our take

If it's your first time inside Sphere, sit in the center 200 level and let the building do its thing. If you've seen a Sphere show before and you're here for Metallica, get as close to the Snake Pit as your budget allows. The band in the round is the thing you can't get anywhere else.

Getting in: bags, timing and the Halloween crowd

Sphere is a no-bag venue. You can bring a small clutch, purse or fanny pack of about 6 x 6 x 2 inches, plus a diaper or medical bag if you need one. Backpacks and larger bags aren't allowed. You can't bring in outside food or drinks, but an empty clear plastic water bottle is fine. The venue is cashless and there's no re-entry, so plan merch and bathroom breaks accordingly.

Doors open 90 minutes before showtime. With a listed 8:30 p.m. start, that means doors around 7 p.m. Arrive by 7:30 at the latest if you want merch and a drink before the lights go down. The easiest route is through the Venetian and across the pedestrian bridge; if you're driving, our parking, bags and arrival guide has the options.

October 31 deserves its own note. It's Halloween night in Las Vegas, so the Strip, restaurants and rideshare lines will be busier than a normal Saturday. Book dinner ahead, leave extra time to get to Sphere, and if you're planning a club night after, sort it before you go in.

How to plan a Metallica weekend in Las Vegas

Group of friends in dark rock-show outfits sharing a steak dinner at a Las Vegas resort steakhouse before an evening concert
With an 8:30 p.m. show, an early dinner at the Venetian keeps the night easy.

Because the shows come in pairs, Metallica is a natural two-night trip: fly in Thursday, see both shows, fly out Sunday. Here's a simple plan.

Where to stay

The Venetian connects straight to Sphere by the pedestrian bridge, which makes it the obvious pick for a two-show weekend; it's also one of the official travel-package hotels. Other close options include Wynn and Encore (about a 15-minute walk) and Harrah's and the LINQ (15 to 20 minutes). Compare all of them in our hotels near Sphere guide, or see Luna's Strip hotels by budget if you'd rather save on the room and spend on the seats.

Dinner before the show

Eat by about 6 p.m. so you're at the doors by 7:30. The Venetian and Palazzo have the most options within a short walk: CUT and Cote for steak, Mott 32 for Chinese, Yardbird for Southern comfort food, Bouchon for French, and the Via Via food hall when you just want something fast. Our before-and-after guide has the full list.

After the show

Metallica sets end late, so this is a natural night to keep going. Close Company and Electra Cocktail Club are good for a quieter drink, and TAO is right inside the Venetian. On November 5, the first night of the final 2026 weekend, XS at Wynn reopens. If you want a table after the show, especially on Halloween, request a VIP table before you head in, so it's sorted by the encore. Luna's guide to the best Las Vegas nightclubs can help you pick.

Got a free afternoon?

If you're in town for both nights, the Friday in between is open. The Wizard of Oz at Sphere screens several times a day and runs about 75 minutes, so you can see the building in a completely different mode before the Saturday show. Our Wizard of Oz at Sphere guide covers tickets and seats.

Make it a full Metallica night

Tell Luna's Vegas hosts your show date, club and group size, and get real VIP table options with all-in pricing for after the encore. No obligation.

Is Metallica at Sphere worth it?

For most fans, yes. Here's the honest trade-off.

Why goWhat to weigh
A center stage in the round, which you won't get at most Sphere showsPrices are among the highest at the venue: hundreds per seat before fees
Custom dome visuals for almost every song, different each nightSetlists change, so a favorite song isn't guaranteed
Deep cuts and rarities across two different nightsHalloween and holiday-adjacent dates mean busier, pricier weekends
Strong early reviews from national and local criticsThe upper levels are steep and far from the band

If you're a lifelong fan, this is a once-in-a-career staging, in a building nobody else can replicate, and the No Repeat format rewards going both nights. If you're a casual fan who mainly wants to see Sphere, The Wizard of Oz is a far cheaper way in, and the Eagles (through January 23, 2027) and Backstreet Boys (December 26 to January 2) are other options on the calendar.
